How Much Do Georgia Nonprofits Pay for Accounting and Audit?

Across 387 Georgia nonprofits reporting an accounting fee above zero on their latest Form 990, the median is $32,500 ($15,300–$65,890 between the quartiles). Line 11c covers every accounting service bought that year, so it is a ceiling on the audit fee, not the fee. Data as of 2026-09-16.

What do Georgia nonprofits report paying?

Form 990 "accounting fees" (Part IX line 11c) cover all accounting services reported by the organization and are not the price of an audit engagement. The same line pays for bookkeeping and the tax return as well, so read it as a ceiling on the audit fee rather than the fee itself.

4 of 5 revenue bands had at least 50 organizations reporting a fee and are shown; the rest were measured and left out, because a median of a dozen filings reads like knowledge and is not. How we decide what to publish.

Whose fees are these?

Every organization counted here is a Georgia nonprofit that filed a Form 990 we read and reported an accounting fee above zero. A filing that left the line blank is not counted, and neither is a reported zero: that is a real answer to a different question. All 387 of them also have a single audit on file with the Federal Audit Clearinghouse, which is where we find an organization in the first place, so these are the fees of organizations that spend federal money — not of every nonprofit in the state.

Every band above is an organization that files a single audit, so the figures are not split by single audit status: there is nothing on the other side of the split to compare them with.

What should we expect to pay for an audit?

This page cannot answer that, and neither can anyone quoting a national average. What it gives you is the range organizations of your size reported for all their accounting work, which is the outside edge of a sensible audit quote. Put your own numbers in.

How we computed this

Figures come from Form 990 Part IX line 11c on the most recent e-filed return we hold for each Georgia nonprofit, counting only returns that report an amount above zero. Percentiles are discrete, so every figure shown is an amount some organization actually reported rather than an interpolation. Bands with fewer than 50 organizations are not published.
