How to Search the Federal Audit Clearinghouse

Search the Federal Audit Clearinghouse by organization name, EIN or UEI, open the audit summary for the year you want, then download the reporting package PDF. The auditor named on that summary is the firm that signed that year's single audit.

Open the Federal Audit Clearinghouse search page at app.fac.gov, search by organization name, EIN or Unique Entity ID, narrow the results by audit year and state, open the audit summary and download the reporting package PDF. No account is needed to search.

  1. Open the Federal Audit Clearinghouse search page. Go to the FAC audit search at app.fac.gov. No account is needed to search or to download a report.
  2. Search by organization name, EIN or UEI. Enter the organization's name, its nine-digit EIN, or its Unique Entity ID. The EIN gives the cleanest result because names are entered by the submitter and vary between years.
  3. Narrow by audit year and state. Use the advanced search filters to limit the results to the audit year and the state you want.
  4. Open the audit summary. The summary page shows the audit year, the fiscal period, total federal awards expended, the auditor, and whether findings such as a material weakness were disclosed.
  5. Download the reporting package. The summary links the full reporting package as a PDF, which contains the financial statements, the schedule of expenditures of federal awards and the schedule of findings and questioned costs.

How do I find who audits a nonprofit?

Open the organization's most recent single audit in the Federal Audit Clearinghouse and read the auditor named on the audit summary. If the organization has no single audit on file, ask for its audited financial statements, or check Form 990, Part XII, line 2b, which asks whether the financial statements were audited by an independent accountant.

What if the nonprofit is not in the FAC?

Only entities that had a single audit or a program-specific audit file with the Federal Audit Clearinghouse. An organization below the single audit threshold has nothing to file there even if it has a full financial statement audit. In that case ask the organization for its audited financial statements, or read Form 990, Part XII, line 2b.
